Berliner Kaffeerösterei is more than a coffee brand.
For many people in Berlin, it is part of the city’s atmosphere itself.
Known for its coffee houses, restaurants, craftsmanship, and deep appreciation for coffee culture, the brand had built a strong reputation long before approaching Xfiner.
The challenge was not reinvention.
The challenge was evolution.
The website needed to reflect the maturity of the brand while preserving the warmth, authenticity, and heritage that made Berliner Kaffeerösterei recognizable in the first place.
The challenge
As the brand evolved, its digital presence needed to evolve with it.
The objective was to create a website experience that captured the feeling of Berliner Kaffeerösterei itself:
- Warm
- Premium
- Atmospheric
- Crafted with care
- Rich in sensory detail
- Deeply connected to Berlin coffee culture
The experience also needed to perform seamlessly across devices and modern browsing behavior, particularly on mobile where increasing numbers of customers interacted with the brand.
This was not simply a functional redesign project.
It was a branding and storytelling challenge.
Research beyond the screen
To understand the brand properly, Xfiner traveled to Berlin and immersed directly into the Berliner Kaffeerösterei experience.
The atmosphere, interiors, textures, aromas, pacing, and visual character of the coffee houses became part of the design research process itself.
That hands-on approach helped shape a digital experience grounded in real-world sensory impressions rather than assumptions.
The objective was simple:
Make the website feel like an extension of the physical experience.
Designing with craftsmanship in mind
The design process focused heavily on detail.
Every visual decision was approached with the same level of care associated with premium coffee craftsmanship itself.
Particular attention was placed on:
- Typography
- Color palette
- Image presentation
- Visual pacing
- Mobile interaction
- Atmosphere
- Emotional tone
The goal was not loudness.
The goal was immersion.
The website was designed to invite visitors into the world of Berliner Kaffeerösterei rather than simply display information about it.
A digital experience recognized internationally
The final website elevated Berliner Kaffeerösterei’s digital presence while staying true to the identity and heritage of the brand.
The work later received international recognition through the German Design Award 2021.
The jury highlighted the project’s overall quality and its ability to visually entice visitors with the promise of a rich and flavorful Berlin coffee experience.
The outcome
The redesigned platform became a stronger reflection of Berliner Kaffeerösterei’s identity, helping bridge the atmosphere of its physical locations with a more immersive digital experience.
The website delivered:
- Improved mobile usability
- Stronger visual storytelling
- More immersive brand presentation
- Better alignment between digital and physical experience
- A modernized online presence without losing heritage
Most importantly, it preserved the emotional quality that made the brand special in the first place.
Design that respects heritage
Some redesigns succeed because they transform a brand completely.
Others succeed because they understand what should never be lost.
For Xfiner, this project became a strong example of how thoughtful UX/UI design and digital storytelling can modernize a respected brand while still protecting its identity, atmosphere, and emotional character.
