Most invoicing software feels like it was designed by accountants for accountants.
Bloated interfaces. Endless settings. Confusing workflows. Features nobody uses. And onboarding processes so complicated they require onboarding just to understand the onboarding.
For small business owners, that creates a frustrating reality:
Simple tasks become unnecessarily difficult.
That was the problem Sliptree wanted to solve.
Together with Xfiner, the mission became radically straightforward:
Strip away complexity and redesign invoicing around simplicity, speed, and clarity.
The ambition was bold.
Create invoicing software so intuitive that onboarding would barely be necessary at all.
The challenge
The accounting software industry has long suffered from one core issue:
Too much complexity for everyday users.
Most small businesses do not need overwhelming dashboards filled with secondary functionality. They need software that helps them complete essential tasks quickly and without friction.
Sliptree wanted to rethink the experience entirely.
The platform needed to:
- Simplify invoice generation
- Reduce unnecessary interactions
- Improve usability
- Accelerate common workflows
- Work smoothly across mobile and desktop
- Feel approachable from the very first interaction
The challenge was not adding more functionality.
It was removing friction without sacrificing capability.
Designing simplicity into financial software
Xfiner approached the redesign from a user-centered perspective focused heavily on operational efficiency.
Extensive research and ideation led to a completely reimagined invoicing workflow designed around the most common and important user actions.
The objective was simple:
Help users create invoices faster with fewer decisions, fewer clicks, and less mental effort.
This meant prioritizing:
- Simpler interaction flows
- Cleaner interface structure
- Faster task completion
- Reduced cognitive overload
- More intuitive navigation
The software was designed to feel lighter, calmer, and easier to understand.
Redesigning over 200 screens
The scale of the redesign was substantial.
More than 200 mobile and desktop screens were redesigned as part of the project.
Every screen was evaluated through the lens of usability and simplicity.
The interface evolved into an environment where:
- Core actions became easier to find
- Visual clutter was reduced
- Workflows became more predictable
- Navigation became more natural
- The overall experience felt significantly more approachable
The result was a platform that removed unnecessary resistance from day-to-day financial administration.
Iteration driven by real users
The redesign process was deeply iterative.
Xfiner continuously refined workflows, concepts, and interface behavior through ongoing user testing and design sprints.
Real user feedback shaped critical decisions across the product experience, helping ensure the final platform aligned with how small businesses actually work in practice rather than how accounting systems traditionally behave.
This process helped transform invoicing from something frustrating into something unexpectedly smooth.
Creating software people do not need to “learn”
One of the project’s most important ideas was reducing the need for onboarding entirely.
Instead of forcing users to study the software, the software was designed to explain itself naturally through interaction.
That required extreme clarity in:
- Interface hierarchy
- Workflow sequencing
- Interaction patterns
- Language choices
- Navigation behavior
The best software often feels obvious.
That was the benchmark.
The outcome
The redesigned platform gave Sliptree a dramatically simpler and more user-friendly invoicing experience capable of standing out in a crowded software category.
More importantly, the project demonstrated how thoughtful UX/UI design can transform even traditionally frustrating business software into something efficient, approachable, and genuinely pleasant to use.
Simplicity is harder than complexity
Anyone can add features.
Very few can remove complexity without removing value.
For Xfiner, the Sliptree project became another example of how great design is often invisible at its best.
Because when software feels simple, users stop thinking about the software entirely and simply get their work done.
