TalTech's Virtual Tour

A spectacular project that introduces the leading tech university in Europe from a unique angle.

Tallinn University of Technology is not simply a university.

It is one of Europe’s most forward-looking technology ecosystems.

With more than 11,000 students from 94 countries, nearly 2,000 employees from 51 countries, and over 200 high-tech companies connected to its environment, TalTech represents the intersection of education, innovation, entrepreneurship, and future technology.

When the university approached its 100th anniversary, the ambition was clear:

Create a virtual experience capable of introducing TalTech to the world from an entirely new perspective.

Not as a static institution.

But as a living technology hub built for the future.

The challenge

Traditional university websites struggle to communicate atmosphere.

They present information, but rarely create emotional engagement.

Tallinn University of Technology wanted something far more immersive.

The objective was to design a virtual campus experience that would allow prospective students, researchers, and global visitors to explore the university digitally while experiencing its innovation-driven culture in a more personal and interactive way.

The challenge combined several layers:

  • Virtual exploration
  • AI interaction
  • UX/UI design
  • Media production
  • Storytelling
  • Accessibility
  • Emerging technology integration

The experience needed to feel modern, intelligent, and engaging while remaining easy to navigate for global audiences.

Designing a chatbot-guided university experience

Together with TUUR, Xfiner developed an AI-powered chatbot-guided virtual tour experience that transformed how visitors interacted with the campus digitally.

The chatbot became more than a navigation layer.

It acted as a conversational guide capable of introducing buildings, explaining locations, and helping users move naturally through the experience.

This created a more human and interactive form of exploration compared to traditional virtual tours.

Bringing the campus to life digitally

The project combined extensive media production with immersive UX/UI design to create a highly visual and cinematic digital environment.

Using:

  • Drone footage
  • Photography
  • Video production
  • Copywriting
  • Interface design
  • Interactive storytelling

Xfiner helped capture the atmosphere and scale of the TalTech campus across more than:

  • 13 buildings
  • 30 key campus locations

Every interaction was designed to help users feel connected to the environment rather than simply observing it.

Voice-powered interaction

To make the experience even more engaging, the chatbot was designed with its own voice integration.

This transformed the tour into a conversational journey where users could explore academic buildings, research facilities, and innovation spaces while receiving guided explanations in a more natural and accessible format.

The result felt closer to a real campus introduction rather than a passive digital presentation.

Recognized internationally

The project received international recognition for its UX/UI innovation and immersive experience design.

The TalTech Virtual Tour earned:

  • Honorable Mention from Awwwards
  • Recognition from the European Design Awards

These acknowledgments highlighted the project’s blend of technology, storytelling, and digital experience craftsmanship.

The outcome

The completed virtual tour significantly expanded TalTech’s ability to engage international audiences digitally while reinforcing its positioning as one of Europe’s leading technology universities.

The experience allowed prospective students, researchers, and global visitors to explore the campus remotely while gaining a much deeper understanding of TalTech’s culture, facilities, and innovation-driven identity.

More importantly, the project demonstrated how universities can move beyond static digital communication and create immersive experiences that genuinely inspire curiosity and connection.

Designing the future of institutional storytelling

For Xfiner, the TalTech project became another example of how AI, UX/UI design, media production, and immersive storytelling can work together to create experiences that feel both technologically advanced and emotionally engaging.

Because the future of digital engagement is not only about showing information.

It is about making people feel part of something larger before they ever arrive physically.

Tell us about your operations, goals, or challenges

Hi, I’m Lauri, founder of Xfiner. Over the past decade, I’ve helped businesses across 29+ countries improve digital experiences, operational workflows, and business-critical systems through design, technology, and modern execution.

Along the way, the work has earned 11+ international design awards and led to collaborations with global brands, growing commerce businesses, and operational teams.

Over time, one pattern became clear: most growing businesses already have systems and tools, but operations still become slower, more fragmented, and harder to manage as complexity grows.

That is why Xfiner exists today. We help businesses simplify operational work through intelligent integrations, AI-assisted workflows, operational tools, and modern execution built around how teams actually operate.

I’d be glad to learn more about your workflows, goals, and operational challenges on our discovery call.
